Proponents of Doug Haubert, Long Beach district attorney, cited his experience as a city attorney and his commitment to ethics reform. Haubert serves on several local boards, including the Long Beach Bar Foundation, the Women’s Shelter of Long Beach, and the Goodwill Industries of Southern Los Angeles County. Previously, he served on the city’s Ethics Task Force, where he advocated for a lobbyist registration ordinance against the use of discretionary funds by politicians.
A public defender’s office employee for nearly seven years, Haubert has a large war chest and a wide range of experience in government. He has a special interest in environmental matters. Haubert has been in practice for more than 30 years, and Liddi has spent the last seven in the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office. In the last election, Haubert had a war chest of nearly $113,000, while Moyer and Liddi each raised almost $20,000, mostly from attorneys.
Matthew Ruff
Matthew Ruff, Long Beach district attorney, is well known for his aggressive defense of people charged with crimes. He recently defended a young woman who had been accused of theft at a liquor store. The police detained her in the security room for 30 minutes until they could arrive. She was arrested and charged with petty theft but did not admit guilt. Matthew was able to get the charges dismissed and the young lady was able to keep her license.

Darrion Tyrone Parker
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office filed two counts of murder with special circumstances, including lying in wait and multiple murders. These charges are very serious, and the suspect could be facing the death penalty. The robber must now stand trial and be tried, but he could end up with life in prison, which could make him a favored candidate for the death penalty. In this article, we look at the case, the charges against the suspect, and what we can expect from his trial.
Nick Liddi
As the city’s prosecutor, Nick Liddi has extensive experience in criminal law, but his stance on gangs is somewhat different from that of his opponents. In his election campaign, Haubert focused on gang injunctions and other intervention and prevention programs. Liddi, meanwhile, campaigned on being a tough gang prosecutor. He also stresses the need for court diversion programs.
In February, Beachcomber filed a Public Records Act request with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and the FPPC. The district attorney’s Public Integrity Division handled the request, and they provided the City Clerk with four letters establishing that the DA would not file a criminal complaint against the candidates. These documents do not indicate whether Liddi’s office has the authority to file a lawsuit against the candidates or the city, but they are the first step in the process.
